MHA's Big action, Excise Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner suspended

New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs has taken big action on Delhi's new excise policy. In fact, the then Excise Commissioner Aarav Gopi Krishna and Deputy Commissioner Anand Tiwari, who were involved in making Delhi's new excise policy, have been suspended by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). According to a report, this action from the Ministry of Home Affairs has been taken after Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena initiated suspension and disciplinary proceedings against 11 officials of the Excise Department for 'serious lapses' in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22.

On August 6, Saxena had approved the suspension of 11 excise department officials, including Aarav Gopi Krishna and Anand Tiwari, amid a tussle between Raj Niwas and the Delhi government over the Delhi excise policy. You may be aware that IAS officer Aarav Gopi Krishna was excise commissioner when the policy was framed and implemented last year. At the same time, Anand Tiwari was working as deputy commissioner under Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. You all know that last month, the LG of Delhi also recommended a CBI inquiry into the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22. On August 17, the CBI registered an FIR against 15 people, including Delhi Excise Minister Manish Sisodia, in connection with the case.

The FIR also names Aarav Krishna, former deputy excise commissioner Anand Tiwari and assistant excise commissioner Pankaj Bhatnagar, nine businessmen and public servants including two companies. The CBI on Friday carried out simultaneous searches at 31 locations, including the residences of Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and former Excise Commissioner Aarav Gopi Krishna.
