New Delhi: Dancer and Padma Award winner Birju Maharaj has got relief from Delhi High Court in the matter of vacating government house. The Delhi High Court has stayed the order of the Center on Thursday. The Union Urban Ministry sent a notice to a total of 27 artists including Birju Maharaj in October. In this notice, it was asked to vacate the government house found in Delhi by 31 December. The government itself had said to vacate the house if the process was not done on time. After this, other artists including Birju Maharaj knocked on the Delhi High Court. It was said in the application that he has devoted his entire life towards art, if the house is vacated at this age, then his problems will increase. Hearing the petition, the Delhi High Court has stayed the evacuation till further orders. Now the case is going to be heard on 22 January. Birju Maharaj is residing at the official residence of Shahjahan Road in Delhi since 1978. Birju Maharaj has said that if the government removes him from his residence, he will return all his awards.
