Delhi HC order: Mandatory to wear masks even when sitting alone in car

New Delhi: It is mandatory to wear a mask even if you are alone in a car. The vehicle is like a public place and the security cover, the mask, cannot be ignored while sitting in it. This was stated by the Delhi High Court in a judgment. It is clear that it will now be mandatory to wear a mask even while you are alone in the car, otherwise, the police can make you pay a fine for violating corona guidelines.

Delhi HC said the mask is a protective shield that not only protects the wearer but also protects his close ones. The court said that governments from scientists to governments around the world have instructed them to wear masks. In fact, the Delhi High Court reserved its verdict on petitions filed against wearing masks even when it was alone in a car on February 17. Several people had challenged the challan in the high court in the case. Justice Pratibha M Singh had reserved her verdict after hearing the arguments of the Centre, Delhi government, and petitioners.

According to the live law website, during the hearing, the Central government had said that it would be mandatory to wear masks if the car was alone, no order was ever issued. Meaning never issued an order to wear a mask while alone in the car. However, the Government had further said that the health of the people is a state government subject and the Delhi Government has to take a decision on it. On the other hand, the Delhi government had told the court that it was made mandatory in April 2020 to wear masks while driving personal or office cars alone and the order is still in force.
