Delhi Legislative Assembly 2-Day Session Begins today

NEW DELHI: Starting on August 16th, the two-day session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly was inaugurated in New Delhi. During this session, heartfelt tributes were paid to the memory of five valiant army personnel who tragically lost their lives in a terrorist ambush of their truck in the Poonch district back in April of this year. The assembly  also offered respects to the security personnel who fell victim to a Maoist attack in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh, also in April, as well as honoring those who suffered from acts of violence in Manipur and Haryana.

The assembly took a moment to reflect on the remarkable contributions made by Bindeshwar Pathak, the visionary behind Sulabh International, who sadly passed away the day before. Addressing the media beforehand, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, a prominent BJP leader, revealed that there was a formal appeal to the Assembly speaker, urging an extension of the session from two days to a span of ten days.

Bidhuri shared, "I earnestly requested the Speaker to consider convening a comprehensive 10-day Session. Our MLAs have submitted a total of 12 notices, signifying our genuine interest in constructive discussion. Pertinent issues, such as the contentious construction of a 'sheesh mahal' by the Chief Minister, disregarding established norms, and concerning matters like liquor policy malfeasance, need thorough examination. It remains a pressing question – why does Arvind Kejriwal shirk from engaging in dialogue about these matters? The answers must come from him," Bidhuri said.

Swiftly responding to these remarks, Saurabh Bharadwaj, a prominent minister in Delhi, retorted that BJP's legislative members ought to observe proceedings in the Parliament to witness how the opposition is treated. Bharadwaj further emphasized that the democratic spirit thrives within the Delhi Assembly.

Anticipated within this session is a discourse on the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Act, 2023. The legislative bill, already ratified by the Parliament, has replaced an earlier ordinance enacted by the Central Government. This crucial Act pertains to the regulation of services within Delhi.
