New Delhi: Veteran Congress leader and former Union Minister P Chidambaram has questioned the government in the Rajya Sabha whether PM Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed the border situation during their meeting at the G-20 summit in Bali. The Congress MP made the remarks after initiating the discussion on the Appropriation (No. 5) Bill, 2022, and the Appropriation (No. 4) Bill, 2022, moved by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Citing an additional Rs 500 crore sought for border roads in the supplementary demand for grants, Chidambaram made it clear that he had the right to lift conditions on borders as he did not want any sensitive information. P. Chidambaram asked the government, 'These are strategic and border roads in the Northeast. We know who is the threat on the northern and eastern frontiers. Has China sanctioned anything on hot springs? Is China ready to hold talks on the friction points at Doklam Junction and Depsang Plains? You are creating more buffer zone. What does buffer zone mean? As per our information, it will be a no-patrolling area. Does this mean that we are no longer patrolling where we used to do earlier?' P. Chidambaram, on the other hand, questioned the government regarding the infrastructure being built by the Chinese, saying that he did not want to know about the matching infrastructure from the Indian side, as it could be a defense secret.
