Digital health system great equaliser in support of Universal Health Coverage: Mandaviya

NEW DELHI: In his talk to the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos at the Congress Centre on Wednesday, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya urged India's commitment to strengthen the Digital Health System and close the vaccination gap.

"Digital health is a great equaliser and enabler to support Universal Health Coverage and Sustainable Development Goals, and can help ensure accessibility and affordability of health service delivery," Mandaviya said, emphasising the need to strengthen the Equitable Vaccine Manufacturing Collaborative (EVMC). On Wednesday, the Health Minister gave the opening remarks for the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting sessions "Unlocking the Power of Digital Health" and "Closing the Vaccines Gap."

"India is developing a national framework for digital health in India, with a primary focus on changing from a siloed to an ecosystem approach to digital health. India has begun the digital transformation of healthcare in India under the Ayushman Bharat (Long Live India) Digital Mission "Mandaviya stated in his remark.

He went on to say that the goal is to create a longitudinal Electronic Health Record for India's 1.3 billion citizens. More than 220 million Unique Health IDs, as well as health facilities and a provider registration, have already been issued. We need to establish a tech-supported healthcare service delivery that is resilient, reliable, and accessible to the last mile, he said at the 'Unlocking the Power of Digital Health' session, citing technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, cloud computing, 5G, and nanotech.

At the Closing the Vaccines Gap session, he added, "We've also donated our COWIN platform to the world as a global public good."
