NEW DELHI: Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya congratulated all ASHA employees on receiving the World Health Organization (WHO) Director-Global General's Health Leaders' Award on Monday, saying they played a critical role in the country's response to COVID-19 prevention and management.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier praised all ASHA employees for stating that they are at the forefront of the effort to guarantee that India is healthy. Prime Minister remarked on Twitter, "We are delighted that the WHO Director-Global General's Health Leaders' Award has been bestowed upon the whole ASHA team. All ASHA employees deserve congratulations. They are at the vanguard of ensuring India's health. Their commitment and perseverance are outstanding."
The WHO Director-Global General's Health Leaders' Award was given to India's one million all-female ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist Employees) workers for their "exceptional" contribution to global health, shown leadership, and commitment to regional health challenges. ASHA is an Indian organisation with over one million female volunteers. Throughout the COVID-19 epidemic, they were recognised for their critical role in connecting the community with the health system and ensuring that persons living in rural poverty had access to primary health care services.
