Tiruchirapalli (Tamil Nadu): Four schools and a college in Tiruchi, Tamil Nadu, received bomb threats through email early Tuesday, November 5, 2024. This led some institutions to announce a holiday, as police and bomb detection teams conducted thorough searches at each location. Fortunately, no explosives were found on the premises.

The emails arrived around 3 a.m., targeting R.K.B.S. Public School in Karumandapam, Santhanam Vidyalaya in the Fort area, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School in Thennur, Rajaji Vidyalaya, and Holy Cross Women’s College at Main Guard Gate.

Police reported that Mahatma Gandhi Centenary Vidyalaya, Rajam Krishnamurthy Public School, Rajaji Vidyalaya, and Santhanam Vidyalaya Senior Secondary School—all CBSE-affiliated institutions—as well as Holy Cross Girls Higher Secondary School, were specifically mentioned in the threatening email, warning of potential bomb explosions.

Upon receiving complaints from school authorities, the Tamil Nadu Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services dispatched teams to conduct comprehensive searches across the targeted locations. After hours of careful inspection, police confirmed that the bomb threat was a hoax, as nothing suspicious was discovered.

In response to the threat, Mahatma Gandhi Centenary Vidyalaya School and Rajaji Vidyalaya declared a holiday for the day.

This incident follows a series of recent hoax bomb threats to schools across Tamil Nadu. The state’s Cyber Crime wing has launched a detailed investigation to trace the email sender and the internet protocol address used.
