CHENNAI: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) convened a crucial meeting at its party headquarters in Chennai on Friday. The gathering brought together district secretaries to outline the party's strategic goals, including plans for upcoming local body and state assembly elections set for 2026.
Chaired by DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, the meeting resulted in three significant resolutions. One of the major highlights was a commendation for the central government's issuance of a Rs 100 coin commemorating the birth centenary of the late DMK leader, M. Karunanidhi.
However, the party did not shy away from criticizing the Union Government. In another resolution, the DMK expressed strong disapproval of the central administration, accusing it of neglecting Tamil Nadu in the Union Budget and showing favoritism against the state’s railway projects. The party argued that this neglect has stifled the region's progress compared to other parts of India.
Additionally, the party passed a resolution focusing on the upcoming 'Mupperum Vizha,' a grand celebration that will mark DMK’s Platinum Jubilee. The event will celebrate both the party’s history and its recent successes under MK Stalin’s leadership, especially in the general elections.
A noteworthy moment during the event was the release of MK Stalin’s latest book, Parliamentary Election 2024: 40/40 Verdict of the South, by DMK General Secretary Duraimurugan. The book was handed to DMK Treasurer and MP, TR Baalu.
In his address to the party members, MK Stalin emphasized the importance of preparing for future elections. He urged party members to stay engaged politically, focus on their accomplishments, and effectively address any criticisms. He also highlighted the value of ground-level efforts to translate the success of government schemes into voter support.
“We should spend the next two years with the elections in mind,” said Stalin. “While responding to criticisms, we must also showcase our achievements to the people. Fieldwork is essential to convert government schemes into votes.”
Despite his busy schedule, Stalin reassured party members that he would oversee preparations for the 'Mupperum Vizha.' Even as he prepares for an upcoming trip to the United States to attract investment to Tamil Nadu, he promised to stay involved in critical decisions concerning the celebration.
