EAM Jaishankar, Fiji PM discuss further strengthening India-Fiji ties

NADI: India's External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar and Fiji Deputy Prime Minister Biman Prasad on February 15 discussed further advancing India-Fiji ties through developmental cooperation.

Jaishankar inaugurated the 12th Vishwa Hindi Sammelan in Nadi, Fiji on Wednesday.Fiji's President Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere was also present at the event.

Jaishankar arrived in Nadi on Tuesday and was welcomed by Fiji Education Minister Aseri Radrodro. "Great to meet FijiGovernment Deputy Prime minsiter Biman Prasad in Nadi shortly after our meeting in New Delhi. Discussed further advancing our longstanding ties through our development cooperation," Jaishankar  said in tweet.

The 12th Vishwa HindiS ammelan will begin tomorrow in Nadi. Thank Minister of Education Aseri Radrodro for the warm welcome. Look forward to meeting Hindi enthusiasts from all over the world," Jaishankar said.

At the twelth Vishwa Hindi Sammelan, Jaishankar emphasized promoting the Hindi language across the world. "It is only natural for us to concentrate on diverse facets of the Hindi language, its global use, and its spread at occasions like the World Hindi Conference. We'll talk about things like how Hindi is perceived in Fiji, the Pacific region, and other nations "Jaishankar said. He asserted that the time for copying western languages and customs was past.

"The day when modernism and development were synonymous with westernisation is over. On the international scene, numerous such languages and traditions that were suppressed during the colonial era are now again speaking up "added Jaishankar.  He also said that it is essential for the globe to be aware of diverse cultures and societies. In such a circumstance, it is essential that the world be aware of all the cultures and societies," EAM Jaishankar said. Jaishankar also expressed his gratitude to the Fijian government for hosting the 12th Vishwa Hindi Sammelan in Nadi and noted that gatherings like this help to strengthen the bilateral relationship.

"It gives me great pleasure to be here with you all for the 12th World Hindi Conference's opening ceremony. I appreciate the Fijian government working with us on this as a partner. It  also gives many of us the chance to travel to Fiji and strengthen our long-standing relationship "Jaishankar said

Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, president of Fiji, noted during the ceremony that this forum offers a great chance to recognise the lasting strength of the unique and historical relationship that Fiji has with India.

The governments of India and Fiji will jointly organise the World Hindi Conference in Nadi, Fiji, from February 15–17.
