In order to prevent any mishaps in Train the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has taken several measures as the dense foggy condition prohibits clear vision during the winter. ECoR has directed the loco pilots to regulate train speed depending on the visibility conditions for the safety of passengers in dense foggy weather. Train running staff are being counselled by the Railway Officers & Safety counsellors on how to handle the situations. In order to alert the loco pilots and improve visibility, luminous and fluorescent strips have been painted in overhead equipment masts, level crossings and at heavy traffic areas before the stop signal. This facility has been of great help to the loco pilots who can spot these luminous strips even during fog and become extra careful. General manager, East Coast Railway has instructed the officials of the Safety Department to set top priority to safe running of trains during the winter season. The loco pilots and guards have been told to run the trains at the speed they feel comfortable, even if it means loss of time.
