London; judicial records, Emma Coronel Aispuro, the wife of infamous Mexican drug lord Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman, is scheduled to be released from US custody on Wednesday, two years after she was jailed for her part in facilitating her husband's drug empire. In November 2021, Coronel, a 34-year-old dual citizen of the US and Mexico, entered a guilty plea to charges of drug trafficking, money laundering, and helping her husband escape from a Mexican prison in 2015. She must forfeit $1.5 million as part of the sentence and serve four years of supervised release. Coronel expressed regret for her interactions with Guzman and the Sinaloa Cartel during the closing court proceedings. In court, Coronel acknowledged her complicity in helping Guzman bring about 450 kg of cocaine, 90 kg of heroin, and nearly 90 000 kg of marijuana into the country. The former beauty queen wed Guzman in 2007 when she was 18 years old. During her husband's trial, she was frequently seen wearing designer clothing, and her lavish lifestyle was frequently documented on her verified Instagram account, which has been dormant since December 2020.
