Kolkata: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora on Friday inspected preparations for the forthcoming assembly elections in West Bengal. The Election Commission (EC) has decided to conduct voting at more than one lakh polling booths in Bengal elections due to corona. Sunil Arora said that after discussions with political parties, most of them have said that a large number of CRPF should be deployed in the elections and videography at the polling station so that safe voting can take place. He has also asked for effective steps to prevent misuse of social media. Sunil Arora said on the forthcoming assembly elections in Bengal, "polling booths have been increased due to coronavirus. In the last election, 78,903 polling booths were set up in Bengal. Now, this number has crossed one lakh and reached 1, 01790. All polling stations will be built on the ground floor. '' He further said that we have taken an assurance from the Chief Secretary, DGP, and Home Secretary that there will be no civilian police anywhere for any voting-related action. The elections are proposed in West Bengal in April-May. The tenure of the present Mamata government of the state expires on 30th May 2021. Due to this, all parties including TMC, BJP have also started election preparations.
