Election commission team to arrive in Manipur today

Today, a team of officials from the Election Commission of India (ECI) will arrive in the poll-bound state of Manipur. The ECI team will assess the state's poll preparation for the upcoming Assembly elections.

In the run-up to the state's Assembly elections, ECI officials would assess the COVID-19 situation in Manipur. Manipur to have elections in two phases, on February 27 and March 3.

Meanwhile, the All Tribal Students' Union of Manipur (ATSUM) has set February 10 as the deadline for the ECI to amend the first-phase polling date.

February 27 is a Sunday, which is a day for mass prayer at churches. Several civil society organisations and religious bodies have already urged the ECI to reschedule the first-phase election polling date. The ECI team will interact with the chief secretary, DGP, and chief electoral officer, as well as leaders of the state's political parties, during their visit to Manipur.
