New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday issued summons to Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party leader Rahul Gandhi for questioning in a money laundering case related to the newspaper 'National Herald'. The agency has asked Sonia Gandhi to appear before it next week on June 8 at the headquarters in Delhi, while Rahul Gandhi has been asked to appear before it on Thursday. However, Congress has appealed for a change in the date for Rahul. Rahul is currently on a foreign trip. He attended the events in London from May 20 to 23. He hasn't returned to India since then. There have been reports of him returning to India by June 5.
According to the reports received, if Sonia and Rahul do not want to appear before the Enforcement Directorate, then they have options in front of them. First, they can leave without replying to the notice. In this case, the Enforcement Directorate will send them a notice again. The second option is to challenge this notice before the court.
BJP leader Subramanian Swamy had filed a petition in the trial court in 2012 alleging that some Congress leaders had wrongfully acquired Associated Journals Limited through Young Indian Limited (YIL). He had alleged that all this was done to occupy the Rs 2,000-crore building of the Herald House located on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg in Delhi. Under the conspiracy, Young Indian Limited has been given the right to the property of TJL.
