New Delhi: The new variant of corona infection, the Omicron variant, is taking a hit at a faster pace. Earlier this year, corona's delta strain had wreaked havoc around the world, especially in India in April-May. Due to this, lakhs of people died in the country in no time. Experts have now expressed apprehension that Omicron and Delta could come together to become a major crisis. Now, with the new mutant variant of Omicron, the risk has increased manifold, forcing experts and health experts to consider again how deadly this emerging strain of infection can be. However, experts are now of the opinion that if a patient is infected with both delta and omicron forms of SARS-CoV-2 infection at the same time, it will be a type of 'super strain' and can be very frightening. It is said that the omicron variant of the infection is immune to the vaccine and contains high spike protein, which is 30 times more than the delta variant, making it even more difficult to control. Dr. Paul Burton, Chief Medical Officer, Moderna, told the Science and Technology Committee of the British Parliament that the possibility of super strain cannot be ruled out given the speed at which Omicron is spreading around the world. He told UK MPs that it is very likely that both variants can swap genes and make another fiercevariant. Experts are of the opinion that the possibility is low but it will likely be there.
