Facebook took action over 3 crores materials in a month, informs govt

New Delhi: Facebook has cracked down on more than 30 million materials in 10 violation categories in India between May 15 and June 15. The Internet Media Company has informed this in its first monthly compliance report issued following information technology (IT) rules. Instagram has taken action against 20 lakh items put on its platform in nine categories.

Under the new IT rules, the large digital platform will have to publish compliance reports per month in which they will report the complaints received by them and the action taken thereon. A Facebook spokesperson said that over the years, the company has consistently invested in technology, people, and processes to keep its users safe online and openly present its views on its platform. Facebook said its next report will be released on July 15 which will provide information on complaints received from users and action taken thereon.

Facebook said in the report that these three crore materials include materials related to spam (2.5 crores), violence and bloodshed (25 lakh), adult nudity and sexual activity (18 lakh), hate speech (3,11,000) among others. The action taken against them includes removing content from the stage or covering disturbing photos or videos with a warning.
