Farmers in Punjab, Haryana sensitised on stubble management

CHANDIGARH: A Canadian smart seeder Mini-Max machine in collaboration with the Canadian Consulate General's Office here has sensitised farmers in Punjab and Haryana through winter wheat sowing trials with its innovative stubble management technology to reduce stubble burning, a significant source of air pollution in northern India.

It worked together on this with the Northern Farmers Mega FPO, a group of 43 farmer cooperatives with more than 12,000 members.

Clean Seed Capital Group Ltd this month attended the CII Agro Tech 2022, on Tuesday and has  said it completed the final phase of MINI-MAX technology demonstrations for winter wheat in multiple conditions in the northern region. To develop a sustainable farming model, extensive conversations about the role of government in farmer welfare were held with the governments of Punjab, Haryana, and the Centre.

The primary tactics included providing farmers with a subsidy for the multi-crop no-till MINI-MAX as well as other incentives, like carbon credits.

Northern Farmers Mega FPO's creator and director, Puneet Singh Thind, exclaimed with joy that the farmers were thrilled to be a part of this innovative project in agriculture.

A CEO roundtable discussion about the advantages of a fully integrated farming supply chain model and how to work towards its realisation was part of the company's programme. Participants included leaders from various industries, including agro inputs, agro banking, produce processing, and other agriculture related companies.

Chairman and CEO of the Company, Graeme Lempriere, said: "India is one of the largest agricultural markets in the world and is expected to be one of the fastest growing economies in the world in 2022, with a predicted growth rate of 6.7%. India is concentrating on implementing innovative technology that address the environmental issues the agriculture sector is now facing." The business revealed in September that it has signed a Letter of Intent with the Northern Farmers Mega FPO to distribute 1,000 smart seeder Mini-Max devices across Punjab and Haryana between 2023 and 2025.
