Fierce explosion in Ludhiana's steel factory, 2 laborers died

Amritsar: Two laborers lost their lives and four people were seriously injured in a massive explosion in the boiler of a steel factory in Punjab's Ludhiana city on Tuesday (December 21) morning. They were immediately rushed to the hospital. The number of injured is expected to increase. After the explosion there was a fire and flames started rising all around and smoke started coming out. On receiving the information about the incident, the fire brigade team reached the spot and got involved in the rescue work. The cause of the blast is being ascertained.

According to reports, a massive explosion accompanied the boiler explosion at the steel plant located in Doraha town of Ludhiana district in Punjab. Due to this, both the laborers present there died. Police officials have informed that both the injured laborers were taken to the nearby Sidhu Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Four other workers were also injured in the blast in the Rampur Road factory. Police officials said the cause of the blast was being probed.

DSP (Payal) Harsimrat Singh said that the blaze occurred on Tuesday morning in the boiler of the gasification unit of the factory, where six workers were present. Two of them Vinay Singh and Rahul Kumar died on the spot. Both were standing near the boiler. At that time Vinay was putting wooden logs in the boiler, and Rahul was on maintenance duty. He suffered severe burns and could not be saved. The DSP said that their bodies were later taken to the SPS Hospital in Ludhiana.
