Mayiladuthurai: A bus caught fire in Porayar in Mayiladuthurai district on Friday morning. However, about 30 passengers on board the bus survived the accident. The Puducherry Road Transport Corporation bus was on its way to Karaikal with 30 people from Mayiladuthurai when the accident took place. Police said the bus had left the Porayar bus stand minutes before the fire broke out. The same bus driver suddenly noticed a thick burst of smoke from the engine and stopped the bus on the side of the road. All the passengers and crew members immediately got off the bus. Fire tenders from the Porayar fire station rushed to the spot and the fire was doused. The entire front of the bus was burnt to ashes in the fire. Police said there was no harm in the accident. In fact, there have been several incidents of vehicle fires in the past. The bus had just moved towards its destination when the bus suddenly caught fire. However, it is a matter of relief that no injuries were reported in the accident. People there say the driver immediately stopped the bus and asked people to get off the bus after seeing smoke coming out near the bonnet of the bus.
