Fire breaks out in Parliament, chaos erupts

In South Africa, a massive fire broke out in the houses of both houses of the country's Parliament in Cape Town. Local time, the fire department was called to the spot at 5 am. The video that surfaced on social media shows black smoke emanating from the building. There is also a fear that the building may not be damaged and collapse due to fire. No damage has been reported at present.

Flames can be seen rising out of the roof of the Parliament. Thick black smoke can also be seen from miles away. The cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed and it is not clear if anyone is inside the building. Jermaine Carrolls, a spokesman for the City of Cape Town's Fire and Rescue Service, said the bitumen on the roof is also melting, indicating extreme heat. Some walls have been reported to have cracks, which could indicate a collapse. A fire broke out in St George's Cathedral near Parliament hours after the state funeral of Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

Mayor's Committee for Safety and Security member JP Smith said that the national assembly building was on fire and flames had spread to the roof. Smith said the fire could not be controlled and reports of cracks in some walls of the building have been confirmed. Smith said 36 firemen are present at the spot and more resources may be required to control the fire. The alarm sounded at 5 a.m. It is reported that the fire started from the third floor and then spread to the gym.
