Following Atiq Ahmed’s killing, crude bomb hurled at his lawyer’s home in Prayagraj

Prayagraj: A crude bomb was hurled in a bylane near the house of one of the lawyers of killed gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed on Tuesday, police said. However, there was no instant report of any casualty in the explosion that occurred at around 2.30 p.m. in Katra locality, it adds.

Station House Officer of Kernalganj police station Ram Mohan Rai said Atiq’s lawyer Dayashankar Mishra was not the target and the incident was a fallout of personal enmity between two youths. The lawyer, however, said that it was an attempt “to generate fear and terror”.

“I was in the court when my son told me that bombs have been hurled. I immediately went home. I think this has been done to frighten me, to make terror, It is a big conspiracy.  It is for the police to find out who is behind this,”  Mishra shared., adding that “My daughter and the locals saw that there was one person involved and three bombs were hurled." “The crude bomb was hurled due to personal enmity of 2 youths in Katra area. It is a coincidence that the incident took place near the house of one of the advocates of Atiq Ahmed, who resides in the locality,” Station House Officer said. Forensic experts had collected evidence from the spot, the police said, and  further action was being taken.

Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead on April 15 night in dramatic circumstances during a media scrum while being escorted by police in Prayagraj.
