Lucknow: The murder case of former Samajwadi Party (SP) MP and mafia boss Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed will now be investigated by the Special Investigative Team (SIT). The Police Commissioner of Prayagraj has issued orders to investigate the entire matter. DCT Crime will lead this team. ACP Satendra Tiwari and Crime Branch Inspector Om Prakash Singh have also been included in the team.

Apex court lawyer Vishal Tiwari, while filing a petition in this case, has demanded that the investigation of the entire case be done under the supervision of the former judge. Not only this, but a demand has also been made in the petition to investigate 183 encounters in Uttar Pradesh since 2017.

The petition sought the constitution of an independent expert committee headed by a former apex court judge. Advocate Vishal Tiwari has said in his petition that Vikas Dubey and his associates were also killed in an encounter by the police after the Bikru massacre in Kanpur in 2020. A petition was also filed regarding this matter, requesting that there be a CBI inquiry into the entire matter.
