Kochi: Shahrukh Saifi, accused in the train fire incident in Kozhikode, Kerala, has been prosecuted under UAPA, in which case he can now face life imprisonment. Shahrukh Saifi was arrested in Maharashtra. It is alleged that Shahrukh set fire to an express train running between Alappuzha and Kannur, killing four people travelling in the train. An infant child was also included among the dead.

While probing the matter, the Kerala Police recovered some papers and diary pages from Shahrukh Saifi's house in Shaheenbagh. After reading these documents, the police have expressed apprehension that Saifi has been radicalised online—that is, someone has taught him to become a religious fundamentalist online. Saifi wrote in his diary, DO IT, LETS DO IT. He has also written words like 'Kufr and Roshan Hona' in the pages of his diary. Not only this, Saifi had also created a YouTube channel. On this channel, he used to put videos of woodworking. However, he did not have many followers. Police suspect that those who wanted to radicalise Shahrukh tracked him through this YouTube channel.

Let us tell you that on April 2 in Kozhikode, Kerala, passengers in a coach of the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express were burned alive by an unknown person. At that time the train was on Korapuzha Bridge. In this incident, 9 people were badly burned, while 3 people were burned alive, including a child and a woman. Maharashtra ATS has arrested Shahrukh Saifi from Ratnagiri in Maharashtra in this case. He is a resident of Shaheen Bagh, Delhi. The police suspect that Saifi was contacted online by someone. After that, he was put to work. However, in the police interrogation, Saifi confessed that he alone carried out the incident. However, the investigating agencies believe that this claim of Saifi is not believed.
