Bhubaneswar: A case of stone-pelting has come to light at the Hanuman Jayanti procession in Sambalpur, Odisha. One person also lost his life in the violence on Friday, April 14. Although the administration is denying the talk of a communal angle in this murder, At the same time, the incident of setting fire to many shops and houses came to light on Saturday. Earlier on Wednesday (April 12), too, violence broke out during the procession. Regarding this, the police have said that the violence was pre-planned.
According to media reports, a procession of Lord Hanuman was being taken out on Friday (April 14) amid communal violence in Sambalpur. Stones were pelted once again during this procession. After this, violence broke out. Regarding the incident, DIG Brijesh Kumar Rai has said that many shops were set on fire in Sambalpur on Friday night. Terrible vandalism was done. After this violence, the administration has imposed Section 144 in the district to maintain peace in the area. Along with this, internet service has also been suspended.
On the other hand, a young man returning from the Hanuman Jayanti procession was murdered in Sambalpur. The deceased has been identified as Chandra Mirdha. Regarding this murder, eyewitnesses say that about 14–15 people attacked Chandra. The attackers had swords and hockey sticks in their hands. Chandra Mirdha was on the bike. First, he was attacked with a brick. Due to this, he fell off the bike. After this, he was killed by the attacker with a sword. However, the police are refusing to consider the murder as communal violence.
