Pauri-Uttarakhand: In view of tiger panic, the Pauri Garhwal district administration on Sunday night enforced a curfew on numerous villages in the Rikhanikhal and Dhumakot tehsils.
Two persons were killed by a tiger on April 13 and 15 in the districts of Rikhanikhal and Dhumakot, which terrified the locals.
The order stated that on April 17 and 18, "the curfew has been imposed from 7 pm to 6 am and the schools and Anganwadi centres of Rikhanikhal and Dhumakot tehsils will remain closed."
The decision was made late on Sunday night after District Magistrate (DM) Ashish Chauhan took note of the Lansdowne SDM Akash Joshi's report.
"Tehsildars from Dhumakot and Rikhanikhal were asked to set up camp in tiger-affected regions. Additionally, instructions have been provided to identify and designate the vulnerable homes and families impacted by the tiger, according to the directive.
In the meantime, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has been urged by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Lansdowne Dalip Rawat to ensure the security of the locals.
The schools were closed on Saturday after the order of the district administration, but now the primary schools in the area are to open from Monday. In such a situation, there is concern among the parents about their wards. Village head Khushendra Singh said that the attacking tiger has not been caught yet and the movement of the tiger continues around the village.
