MADHYA PRADESH: A baby elephant aged one-and-half years was killed by a tiger in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh's Umaria district, informed the Tiger Reserve officials on Tuesday, April 11.

"In Umaria, Madhya Pradesh's Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, a wild elephant's carcass has been found. The elephant is thought to be one and a half years old. Not just in the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve but also in Madhya Pradesh, it is the first time a tiger has hunted a wild elephant "Lavil Bharti, Deputy Director, Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve.

Bharti further said, "The Tiger Reserve Management personnel arrived at the scene as soon as they received the information and began their inquiry. The body of a wild elephant was discovered on Monday as the patrol team was scouring the forest in Badbah Muda of Chitrao Beat in the Panpatha Corps zone of the Reserve.

The team notified the Tiger Reserve officials, who then sent a team of physicians and officials to the scene to conduct an inquiry." The tiger's pug marks were found close to the body, according to the officials, who also claimed to have seen a tiger nearby. 

The elephant's body also had marks of a tiger attack on its neck, detailed the officials.
