Former Cricketer and Haryana DSP Joginder Sharma Faces Allegations in Hisar Suicide Case

Chandigarh:  Former Indian cricketer and Haryana Deputy Superintendent of Police Joginder Sharma, renowned for his crucial last over in the inaugural ICC T20 final in South Africa in 2007, is facing allegations in a case of suicide involving a resident of Hisar.

Joginder Sharma, who later joined Haryana Police as DSP, along with five others identified as Ajayveer, Ishwar Prem, Rajendra Sihag, has been named in the FIR registered by Haryana Police for abetment of suicide. The victim, Pawan, from Hisar, reportedly took his own life on January 1 over a property dispute. The following day, Pawan's mother, Sunita, lodged a complaint with the police, stating that a property-related case was pending trial in court.

She accused the six men, including Joginder Sharma, of harassing her son, ultimately leading to his tragic suicide. In protest, Pawan's family demonstrated with his body, urging authorities to arrest the accused under the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. They presented six demands to the police, including financial assistance to the family and a fair investigation into the case.

A senior police official mentioned that the accused have been charged with abetment of suicide, and the section related to SC/ST will be added only after the investigation. Meanwhile, Joginder Sharma denied any involvement in the case, stating, "I am not aware of this case. I neither know nor have ever met Pawan."
