Former Kerala Chief Minister Achuthanandan has tested positive for Covid

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former Kerala Chief Minister and veteran CPI-M leader V.S. Achuthanandan has tested positive for Covid-19. The 98-year-old leader has been admitted to a private hospital at Thiruvananthapuram, his son V.S. Arunkumar posted on social media.

Despite the fact that his father was confined to his home due to his advanced age, the nurse caring for him turned Covid positive the other day, and when he went for testing, he was also found positive, Arunkumar said. "On Thursday, he was shifted to a hospital on the recommendation of doctors and is currently convalescing at the hospital bed," wrote Arunkumar.

While a member of the outgoing Assembly, he opted out of electoral politics and did not run in the April 6 Assembly elections.

From 2006 to 2011, he was the Chief Minister, and from 2011 to 2016, he was the Leader of the Opposition. In 2016, he had to make way for Pinarayi Vijayan to become the next Chief Minister.

Achuthanandan had to make do as a legislator for a while until being appointed chairman of the Administrative Reforms Commission, which gave him cabinet position. However, he resigned from the position soon before the Assembly elections.
