THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Amid the number of Covid cases in Kerala continues to grow, state Health Minister Veena George announced on Tuesday that 63 more patients have tested positive for the Omicron variant, bringing the total to 591.

Six of the 63 cases reported on Tuesday were in the capital  Thiruvandapuram area and belonged to a college student who tested positive after returning from a vacation.

According to the Health Minister Veena George, 401 Omicron cases came from low-risk countries, 101 from high-risk countries, 70 from primary infectees' contacts, and 19 from other states in the country.

Health Minster Veena George also pointed out that while the daily Covid cases in the state were just 1,824 on December 26, they soared to 22,000 on Monday, indicating a significant increase. She said that the total number of current cases has increased to 1,21,458, as has the daily test positivity rate, which has recently reached a new high of 33%.
