Former New Zealand pace bowler Shane Bond to be head coach of MI Emirates

MUMBAI: Ex-New Zealand express pace bowler Shane Bond has been named as head coach of MI Emirates for the inaugural edition of UAE's International League T20. 

Bond will continue to serve as Mumbai Indians' bowling coach in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Parthiv Patel and Vinay Kumar, who are currently talent scouts for the Mumbai Indians, will make their coaching debuts for the MI Emirates team. Parthiv will serve as the batting coach, Vinay as the bowling coach, and former MI all-rounder James Franklin as the fielding coach. Also, Robin Singh, a former cricketer for India, has been named general manager of cricket at MI Emirates.

Shane Bond joined the Mumbai Indians in 2015, and since then, he has helped the team win four championships, develop a strong working style, and assist bowlers reach their full potential on the international arena. Since joining the Mumbai Indians coaching staff in 2010, Robin Singh has participated in five IPL and two Champions League seasons while collaborating closely with Shane Bond. Robin's involvement with UAE cricket will be beneficial as MI Emirates spreads MI's cricket ethos there.

"Parthiv Patel earleir played for the Mumbai Indians and has been a member of the talent scouting team since 2020. Vinay Kumar, another former MI player, joined the scouting squad in 2021. The winning campaigns of the Mumbai Indians in 2015 and 2017 both included Parthiv and Vinay, according to a statement released on Saturday by the team.

James Franklin, a former MI all-rounder and coach, has also been hired by MI Emirates as the fielding coach. The statement said, "With a solid foundation in MI, this team will be in a fantastic position to inject MI Emirates with all that MI resonates with.

I congratulate James, Parthiv, Vinay, Shane, Robin, and Parthiv on their new positions with MI Emirates. The coaching crew is incredibly knowledgeable about the ideals that make MI what it is since they have been an essential part of MI for varied lengths of time. According to Akash M. Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm, "I'm convinced they will be able to create MI Emirates as a team that attracts the adoration of devoted MI fans.

"Being named the Head Coach of MI Emirates is an honour. Building a new squad is always exciting, and I'm looking forward to carrying on the MI tradition and motivating our players to push the sport to new heights, said Shane Bond.

Ahead of the first UAE International League T20, MI Emirates revealed its lineup. The team, which will be based in Abu Dhabi, will have a mix of current and former MI players as well as new stars.
