New Delhi: Former Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh has passed away. He was ill for a long time and underwent treatment at a hospital in Singapore. His kidney transplant was also done a few days ago, after which his health was continuously deteriorating. It is being told that he was undergoing treatment in the hospital for about 6 months. Born on 27 January 1956, Amar Singh has been one of the stalwarts of the Samajwadi Party. He was known for his Hindi knowledge and political connections. Amar Singh is also known for polarizing public opinion on his own strength. Various corruption cases are pending against him which also makes him widely unpopular. He has also been the General Secretary of the Samajwadi Party and a member of the Upper House of the Indian Parliament. On 6 January 2010, he resigned from all posts of the Samajwadi Party (SP). After this, the founder of the party Mulayam Singh Yadav expelled him from the party on 2 February 2010. In 2011, Amar Singh spent some time in judicial custody. Eventually, he retired from politics.
