Four people linked with Bajrang Dal arrested for Murder of Muslim Youth in K’tka

Bengaluru: Four people, allegedly linked to the Bajrang Dal, have been arrested in connection with an assault on two people in Nargund, Gadag district, one of whom died as a result of his injuries. According to police sources, Sameer Shahapur, a server at a roadside diner in Nargund, and his companion Shamsher Khan Pathan, both 19, were allegedly attacked while riding a motorcycle on January 16 night by a group of persons armed with rods and sharp items.

While Shahapur died of injuries on January 17 at the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in Hubballi, Shamsher is still alive.

Because there have been incidents of skirmishes between groups belonging to communities for a few months now, police suspect that Sunday's attack was retaliation for some Muslim youth allegedly assaulting a Bajrang Dal member last November. An investigation will reveal if there was any link to earlier incidents. It was a hate crime, according to Sameer's family members.

According to sources, Bajrang Dal activists led by local leader Sanju Nalvade staged a protest outside the local police station prior to the attack, demanding the arrest of the November attackers and the dismissal of cases against members of his outfit, during which he is accused of delivering a hate speech.
