Fourth wave of Covid-19 may set in around June 22: IIT-K Study

KANPUR: Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-K) predict that the country may be hit by the fourth wave of Covid-19 around June 22.

According to the study, the fourth Covid wave will hit India in mid-June, and the surge will last for nearly four months. The intensity of the wave, however, will be determined by the appearance of new variants, vaccination status, and the delivery of booster doses, according to the study.

Sabara Parshad Rajeshbhai, Subhra Sankar Dhar, and Shalabh of IIT Kanpur's Mathematic department led the study, which used a blend of Gaussian distributions to analyze data from Zimbabwe.

This IIT-K study was released as a pre-print on MedRxiv and is still undergoing peer review. The data shows that the fourth wave of Covid in India will arrive 936 days from the first data availability date, which is January 30, 2020, according to the researchers. "As a result, the fourth wave begins on June 22, 2022, peaks on August 23, 2022, and ends on October 24, 2022," according to the report.
