Ramanand Sagar was born on 29 December 1917 in Lahore. His name at birth was Chandramouli. His grandfather immigrated from Peshawar and settled in Kashmir along with the family. He later became city Seth of the city. When Ramanand was 5 years old, his mother died. He was adopted at an early age by his maternal uncle. His name was changed from Chandramouli to Ramanand Sagar. His childhood was full of difficulties even after being in his maternal uncle's house.

He was very fond of reading and writing. At the age of 16, he wrote his first book - Pritam Pratiksha. In those days Ramanand used to do small tasks to spend his studies. He has worked from peons to soap sales. He has also worked as a helper and truck cleaner in a goldsmith shop. All the money that was collected from these petty tasks, he used to invest all the money in his studies. Ramanand fulfilled his hobby of reading the same way and then got a degree. He was an expert in writing. Because his childhood was spent in difficulties, this pain is reflected in his stories and stories later.
