AHMEDABAD: As part of India's G20 Presidency, the city of Ahmedabad is currently hosting the Urban20 summit, bringing together mayors from G20 cities worldwide. With a total of 89 mayors in attendance, the spotlight falls on Ontario, Canada, featuring Mayor Berry Vrbanovic of Kitchener, Mayor Lucas Cleveland of Cobourg, and Deputy Mayor Harkirat Singh of Brampton. Accompanying the mayors is Vikram Khurana, Chairman of the Toronto Business Development Centre (TBDC), which oversees Ontario's special immigration project known as the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program - Entrepreneur Success Initiative (OINP-ESI). The OINP-ESI expedites the immigration process for 100 eligible entrepreneurs, offering them assistance in establishing or acquiring businesses in Ontario. Khurana stated, "Most immigrant entrepreneurs in Canada originate from either Punjab or Gujarat. Our goal is to support these aspiring entrepreneurs in building their businesses in Ontario without any complications or intermediaries." "Through this initiative, Indian investors with a net worth of C$400,000, who are interested in investing C$200,000 or more in their Ontario-based businesses, are especially encouraged to participate. The TBDC provides free guidance to Indian entrepreneurs regarding the requirements and application process of this initiative," he added. He further mentioned that they serve as a pathway for experienced international entrepreneurs to launch new businesses or acquire existing ones in Ontario. "The program facilitates temporary residency in Ontario, with the potential for permanent residency after 20 months, provided that all program requirements are met." Established in 1990 by the City of Toronto and the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, the Toronto Business Development Centre (TBDC) serves as Ontario's incubator for businesses seeking innovation, growth, and expertise in economic immigration.
