One of the most prestigious awards in the entertainment industry ‘The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ has announced its list of films that are eligible for a nomination at the Oscars 2023. It was announced yesterday that The Kashmir Films, Gangubai Kathiawadi, Rocketry, RRR, and Kantara are eligible for the Oscars. As soon as the news catches the eyes of people the director’s of the film started expressing their excitement. The Kashmir Files', director Vivek Agnihotri tweeted, "#TheKashmirFiles has been shortlisted for #Oscars2023 in the first list of @TheAcademy . It’s one of the 5 films from India. I wish all of them very best. A great year for Indian cinema. #PallaviJoshi #MithunChakraborty @DarshanKumaar @AnupamPKher are all shortlisted for best actor categories. It’s just the beginning. Filmmaker Hansal Mehta who has criticized the film earlier re-tweeted a post of a Journalist which read, “Let me make this clear - that filmmaker who is claiming his divisive film has been “shortlisted” for the Oscars is LYING. His film has only qualified for the Oscars. Any film can qualify if it has a limited run in LA.” Sharing this article Hansal wrote sarcastically in a tweet, “You are a genocide denying anti-national.” Speaking of Kashmir Files was made on a budget of ₹15 crore and ended up grossing over ₹350 crore worldwide, largely due to strong word of mouth. The film, directed by Pallavi’s husband Vivek Agnihotri, dealt with the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley over 30 years ago.
