Kolkata: In the second phase in West Bengal, 30 assembly seats will be voted on 1 April. Before that, the politics of the gotra has been in the state. It started with a statement by Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo and CM Mamata Banerjee. Since then, a Twitter war has erupted between Union Minister Giriraj Singh and Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra. In retaliation on Mamata, Giriraj Singh asked if the Rohingya and the intruders also had gotra. He had tweeted and said, "Those who settled the Rohingya for votes, those who stopped the Durga-Kali worship, humiliated the Hindus, now comes into the gotra matter in fear of defeat. 'Shandilya gotra' is dedicated to Sanatan and the nation, not to vote". In response, TMC MP Mahua Moitra tweeted, "Union Minister Giriraj Singh says that Mamta's gotra belongs to Rohingyas, we are proud of it". Giriraj then retorted by tweeting, "Shikha/Chutia has been an integral part of the eternal civilization and culture of India and it is not fair to abuse Sanatan for the sake of votes" Keep washing the Rohingya's feet… Soon Hindustan will ask for an answer". Let us tell you that on Tuesday (March 30, 2021) in Nandigram, Mamata Banerjee told an anecdote that when she went to a temple during the election campaign, the priest asked her gotra and she called her gotra 'maa-mati-manush'. At the rally, Mamta Banerjee said that although her gotra is 'Shandilya', she describes her gotra as 'maa-mati-manush'.
