Modi govt approves PLI scheme in food processing sector

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet met on Wednesday under PM Modi's leadership. Union Ministers Prakash Javadekar, Piyush Goyal has briefed about the cabinet decisions in the press briefing. The Modi cabinet has decided to implement the PLI scheme in the field of food processing. The Union Cabinet has decided to provide a subsidy of about 10,900 crore rupees in the field of food processing. The Union Cabinet has approved the same under the PLI scheme.

On the scheme, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said the decision will provide employment to about 2.5 lakh youth. It is the endeavor of the Central Government to identify India's food brand in the world. Union Minister Piyush Goyal told reporters in a press briefing that the decision will benefit farmers. Even under the new agricultural laws, farmers have been given the option to sell their produce in any kind of market. The effort behind this idea is to promote the food processing industry in the country.

On the question of whether the scheme is a sequel to the Agriculture Act, Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said that the Modi government is taking several major decisions in the interest of farmers. This decision for the food processing sector is also one of them.
