Abhinav Bindra has encouraged young shooters: Abhishek Verma

India's rising pistol shooter Abhishek Verma has said on Thursday that Abhinav Bindra's Olympic gold changed the shooting landscape in the country and inspired many youngsters to perform well on the international stage.

Bindra won the gold medal in the individual event at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and became the first Indian to do so. Abhishek Verma said that his gold encouraged many young shooters. Abhishek Verma said, 'Abhinav Bindra's gold medal completely changed the landscape of shooting in our country. It boosted the morale of many budding shooters like me that we too can do well in sports and win medals for our country.

India has achieved a record 15 quota for the Tokyo Olympics. Verma was also successful in raising one of these Olympic quotas, who finished first in the 10-meter air pistol event at the Beijing World Cup. Varma said, "I am working hard to refine myself so that I can give my best in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics."
