Google Doodle Celebrates India’s Architectural Heritage on 78th Independence Day

For India’s 78th Independence Day, Google has introduced a captivating Doodle that showcases the nation’s rich architectural heritage. Created by freelance art director and illustrator Varindra Javeri, the Doodle offers a vibrant tribute to India’s diverse architectural styles.

This year’s Doodle features a visual montage that captures the essence of India’s architectural splendor. It highlights a range of structures, from ancient temples and historic forts to modern skyscrapers and traditional homes, reflecting the country's cultural and historical richness.

The design combines editorial illustrations, cell animations, and style frames to present architectural wonders from various regions of India. This artistic portrayal celebrates both the nation’s freedom and its architectural achievements.

Google has a tradition of marking India’s Independence Day with special Doodles. Last year’s Doodle focused on India’s textile crafts, showcasing different embroidery and weaving techniques.

Independence Day in India, celebrated on August 15, commemorates the end of British rule in 1947. Festivities across the country include flag-hoisting ceremonies, tributes to freedom fighters, and cultural performances. At the Red Fort in Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the national flag for the 11th consecutive time, underscoring this year’s theme, ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047,’ which envisions transforming India into a developed nation by 2047.

Last year, 2023, Google celebrated Independence Day with a unique Doodle that highlighted India’s rich textile heritage. Created by New Delhi-based artist Namrata Kumar, the Doodle depicted textiles from 21 different regions. It featured a patchwork of India’s beautiful textiles, weaving together a vibrant narrative of the country’s diverse textile traditions.
