Government shortly to appoint a new chairperson for the UGC

NEW DELHI: Within the next one month, the Union Education Ministry is anticipated to designate a new University Grand Commission (UGC) head. Any officials from the federal or state governments shall be disqualified from consideration for the position. This UGC top position could be considered for notable innovators and those who can help higher education institutions implement the National Education Policy (NEP).

The incumbent chairman of the University Grants Commission, D.P. Singh, will leave office in the first week of December. As a result, the UGC could have a new chairman by the end of December.

According to the Ministry of Education, various criteria have been established for the new chairman's appointment. According to these guidelines, a person with global expertise in innovation will be given priority for the position. In addition, the applicant must be under the age of 60. The chairman of the UGC serves for five years or until he or she reaches the age of 65, whichever comes first.
