New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Monday, November 29, that the government is conducting the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana to distribute free grains to nearly 80 crore people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and that the scheme has been extended until March 2022.

The Centre granted an additional distribution of foodgrain to National Food Security Act (NFSA) recipients under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (Phase IV) until November earlier this year.
The government will offer a free ration of 5 kg foodgrains per person per month to a maximum of 81.35 crore beneficiaries under the NFSA (Antyodaya Anna Yojana and Priority Households) scheme, including those receiving Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
