Guterres calls on countries to keep promise to deliver health, sanitation to all

United Nations: UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres called on governments to ensure that everyone has access to health and sanitation in a message for World Toilet Day. On Friday, he stated, "Life without a toilet is filthy, unsafe, and undignified."

"However, 3.6 billion people still lack access to good sanitation, putting their health at risk, hurting the environment, and impeding economic progress." It is also possible to die due to a lack of sufficient sanitation. According to UN figures, more than 700 children under the age of five die every day from diarrhoea caused by contaminated water and sanitation.

World Toilet Day, which has been observed annually on November 19 since 2013, strives to break down barriers and make sanitation a worldwide development priority for all. According to the UN Secretary General, toilets save lives and assist advance gender equality and society as a whole.

"Many countries have improved their health systems by improving sanitation and ensuring that everyone has access to toilets." Guterres called for immediate and enormous investment, as well as innovation, throughout the entire "sanitation chain," from toilets to human waste transportation, collection, and treatment.
