International Friendship Day ie Friendship Day is a festival celebrated every year which is special for friends. Although it is not a festival of Hinduism, but yes it can be called a festival for friends. This day is considered very special for friends. This day is celebrated on the first Sunday of August every year. People celebrate this day with their friends. On this day, friends do party together. When someone goes out for a walk, someone does some other work. On the occasion of Friendship Day, people gift cards, flowers, and chocolates to their friends. Many songs have also been made in Bollywood which depict friendship and there are many films which show friendship. Now, this year Friendship Day is going to be celebrated on 2 August 2020. This day was first proposed as International Friendship Day in 1958 in Paraguay. It is said to have originated from Hallmark Card by Joyce Hall in 1930. The United Nations has finally declared 30 July as the official International Friendship Day. In India, it is usually celebrated on the first Sunday of August. In 1998, Nan Annan, wife of former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, announced Winnie the Pooh as a global ambassador of friendship at the UN. Friendship Day is celebrated on different days in different countries around the world. On 27 April 2011, the General Assembly of the United Nations had officially declared 30 July as International Friendship Day. But many South Asian countries, including India, celebrate Friendship Day on the first Sunday of August. At the same time, Friendship Day is celebrated on 8 April in Orblin, Ohio.
