Hardik Patel was in custody, was going to meet jailed ex-IPS Sanjeev Bhatt

NEW DELHI: Congress party star leader Hardik Patel and two other MLAs have been detained on Wednesday during their visit to Palanpur in Gujarat. A police officer is reported to have reported that Hardik Patel along with the two MLAs were going to Palanpur district jail to meet former IPS officer Sanjeev Bhatt.

Sanjeev Bhatt was sentenced to life imprisonment by a district court last month after pleading guilty under Section 302 of the IPC and has serious charges of custoday deaths during the Gujarat riots. While Sanjeev Bhatt is still lodged in Palanpur district jail.

Superintendent of Police Neeraj Bargujar has said that the law and order situation in Palanpur district jail was facing problems and that is why we have detained Congress MLAs and activists of Palanpur and Patan, including Hardik Patel. Congress leader Hardik Patel along with Palanpur MLA Mahesh Patel and Patan MLA Kirit Patel have also been detained. Hardik Patel is a big face of the Congress party in Gujarat and he is quite popular too.
