Good news for Harley Davidson customers: The government has introduced a new scheme for buyers of this bike in India, under which the import duty on Harley Davidson bikes of more than 1600 cc capacity can be reduced by less than 10 percent. Amerika bike maker Harley Davidson says high import tariffs are becoming a hindrance in increasing trade in India. The company demanded that import duty be cut to expand business in India so that customers can get bikes at a reasonable price and the company should also save on duty. According to the information, the Indian Customs Department will release a new duty category for Harley Davidson bikes. Rectangle tax will be reduced for bikes in this new category. Apart from this, it is worth noting that in the new system, the import tax on bikes of more than 1600 cc has been reduced by less than 10 percent. Earlier, the duty on import of Completely Built Unit (CBU) of all engine capacity has been reduced from 100 percent to 50 percent. There is a large market for Harley Davidson bikes in India. During April-December last year, more than 800 CC bikes were imported in India with a total value of Rs 147 crores.
