New Delhi: Many parts of the country are currently in trouble due to heavy rains. Somewhere there are reports of landslides. Kerala and Karnataka in the south are reeling under severe flood due to heavy rains. Now, the shadow of floods is looming large over the States of North India. In Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, 36 people have been killed and hundreds stranded in the devastation caused by heavy rains last week. Other states of North India, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu and Delhi are also in flood situation. In Himachal Pradesh, the death toll rose to 25 on Monday as the bodies of 11 of those who were washed by cloudburst in Uttarkashi were recovered. Seven people are still missing. The enemies of the people in these two States are not going to go down. In Himachal Pradesh, traffic on 1088 roads, including four National Highways, remained paralysed and more than 500 people remained stranded. In Lahaul-Spiti, Neelkanth experienced two feet of fresh snowfall and rain also disrupted air flights. So far, about 574 crore rupees have been lost due to extreme rains in the state. The Met Department has predicted bad weather conditions across the state till 25th of this month. The water level of rivers in Haridwar and Delhi has crossed the danger mark while the water level in Bhakra Dam has gone up one foot above the prescribed limit. A 16-year-old boy drowned in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, after releasing water from Kota barrage to Chambal. The situation in Punjab and Haryana areas continues to be grim. The Punjab government has declared the current flood situation as a natural calamity in the state. Punjab CM Amarinder Singh has announced a compensation of 100 crore rupees for immediate relief and rehabilitation in the affected areas. The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, which is going through the traditional Lipukh route, has been halted due to landslides. Various State Governments have been engaged in rescue and relief operations.
