Heavy Rainfall alert issued in 16 States including Kerala

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has said that heavy rainfall is expected in 16 states, including Kerala, Uttarakhand and West Bengal in the next two days. Fishermen have been advised not to go to the Middle Arabian Sea. NDMA said in a statement that heavy rains are also expected in areas around the Bay of Bengal.

The NDMA, according to a bulletin of the Indian Meteorological Department, told that in remote areas of Uttarakhand, there have been warnings of heavy rains until Monday. It says that the maritime conditions in the West Central Arabian Sea are likely to be very bad. Fishermen have been advised not to go to this area. 

Heavy heavy rains in remote areas of Uttarakhand, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, coastal Andhra Pradesh, coastal Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala are being expected.

During this period, 718 people have died during the monsoon flood and rain-related incidents in seven states. According to the National Emergency Response Center (NERC) of the Home Ministry, 171 people in Uttar Pradesh, 170 people in West Bengal, 178 in Kerala and 139 people in Maharashtra have died. 

Apart from this, 52 people in Gujarat, 44 in Assam and eight in Nagaland have died. A total of 26 people have been missing in the rain-related incidents in the states of which 21 people in Kerala and five people in West Bengal were missing. While 244 others were injured.
