NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for heavy rainfall across several states today, September 9, 2024. Andhra Pradesh and Odisha are under red alert, while Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and West Bengal have been issued an orange alert. Additionally, other states are on yellow alert as monsoon rains continue to impact large regions of the country. According to IMD, a "low pressure area" over the west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal is expected to bring widespread rain to multiple districts, especially in Odisha, until September 11. Rainfall Forecast by Region: Andhra Pradesh: Light to moderate rainfall is predicted across most areas, with heavy downpours expected today and on September 10. Odisha: The state is expected to experience rain in several districts until September 11, as the depression intensifies. Chhattisgarh: Heavy rainfall is likely on September 11, with wet conditions expected for the next two days. Telangana: Heavy rains are forecasted to continue until September 10. West Bengal: Light to moderate rainfall is predicted, with isolated places experiencing heavy to very heavy rainfall on September 9 and 10, and more rain likely on September 12. Jharkhand: Heavy rains are expected over the next three days. Maharashtra: Light to heavy rain will affect the region until September 10. Delhi: The Regional Meteorological Centre predicts cloudy skies with light rain and thunderstorms. Wet conditions are likely to persist until September 14, with temperatures ranging from 25°C to 32°C. The IMD has warned that the depression may strengthen into a deep depression and will likely cross the Odisha coast near Puri by noon today, moving west-northwest toward Odisha and Chhattisgarh over the next two days.
